Location

The Korean Peninsula extends about 1,000 km from the Asian continent into the Pacific Ocean with more than 3,000 islands dotting the coastline.
Mountains cover almost 70 percent of the land mass, making the country one of the most mountainous regions in the world and offering abundant forest resources.
Administratively, Korea consists of nine provinces with 77 small cities and 88 counties.

Access to Jeju

Jeju International Airport is conveniently located at the center of East Asia and is easily accessible from China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The airport currently services 22 direct international flights and 13 domestic flight. They take off and land 143,000 times in a year including Boeing 747's using the 3km runway and the Jeju Airport can handle 15.2 million passengers a year.

Transfer via Major Hub Airports

Visitors from countries without direct flights may easily travel to Jeju through major airports such as those in Osaka, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok and etc.

Transfer via Incheon (Seoul) International Airport

Passengers can move to Gimpo (Seoul) Airport and transfer to a domestic flight from there. It is a one-hour-flight from Gimpo (Seoul) to Jeju. To get to Gimpo (Seoul) Airport from Incheon (Seoul) Airport, visitors can take a shuttle bus, high-speed rail and taxi. It takes approximately 30 minutes, and shuttle buses run every 5 minutes.

Transfer via Gimpo (Seoul) International Airport

Passenger can move to domestic flight directly from there. It is a one-hour-flight from Gimpo (Seoul) to Jeju. To get to international terminal to domestic terminal, visitors can move 10 minutes to walk.

Transfer via Gimhae (Busan) International Airport

Passenger can move to domestic flight directly from there. It is a fifty-minutes-flight from Gimhae (Busan) to Jeju. To get to international terminal to domestic terminal, visitors can take a free shuttle bus. Shuttle buses run every 10 minutes.

Jeju Weather

The driest month of the year. The sun will show itself now and again, with 126 hours of sunshine during the entire month. Bring a rain jacket in case it rains during your stay. Plan on bringing some warm cloths, but also take a few t-shirts just in case it gets warmer. At night it tends to cool off so best to pack some warm nightwear as well.

Korean Language

The Korean language, like Hungarian, Turkish, Mongolian and Finnish, is classified into the Ural-Altaic language group.
Hangeul(한글), the Korean alphabet, is composed of 10 simple vowels and 14 consonants. A group of scholars under the patronage of King Sejong the Great developed this systematic rendition of spoken sound in 1443. It is widely acclaimed by linguists as an ingenious invention.
In 2009, the town of Bau Bau in Sulawesi, Indonesia adopted Hangeul as their official written language.

Business Hours

Government office hours are usually from 9:00 to 18:00 on weekdays.
Banks are open from 9:00 to 16:00 on weekdays.
Most stores are open every day from 10:30 to 20:00, including Sundays.

Currency

The unit of currency is the Korean Won (Indicated as ₩). Coin denominations are ₩10, ₩50, ₩100 and ₩500. Bank notes are ₩1,000, ₩5,000, ₩10,000 and ₩50,000. Foreign bank notes and traveler's checks can be converted into Korean Won at foreign exchange banks and other authorized money exchangers. International credit cards, such as Visa, Master Card, American Express, Diners Club, and JCB are widely accepted at major hotels, department stores and restaurants.

Tip & Tax Refund

Service charges are included in your bill for rooms, meals, and other services at hotels and upscale restaurants. Koreans occasionally do tip when they are especially pleased with the service they receive.

Foreign tourists can receive nearly 10 % VAT refunds for purchases at Duty Free shops. Goods must be taken out of Korea within three months of purchase to be eligible for a tax refund. Visitors can receive refunds on receipts of minimum purchases of KRW 50,000. To receive your refund, present receipts with the purchased goods at the customs clearance desk at Jeju International Airport when departing.
