About ISC
The International Society of Citriculture (ISC) was organized as a nonprofit organization in 1969. The ISC was conceived while planning the first International Symposium for Citrus in 1968 in Riverside, California. The objective of the ISC is to strengthen internationally science and technology for the benefit of the worldwide citrus industry. The first Congress of the ISC was held in Murcia and Valencia, Spain in 1973. This was a well-attended meeting to initiate the ISC venture and the Spanish hosts provided a excellent cultural experience as well as a well-run meeting. This set a very high bar for subsequent organizers. The ISC has fostered the coordination of the world production chain in the search for academic and technological issues that lead to efficiency of production and consumption of citrus and related products by organizing the international citrus congress and other meetings. Over the past 50 years, 13 more congresses have been held in 10 countries. By 2028, the ISC will have held congresses in 14 locations in 12 countries.
The diverse cultures and methods of citrus production shared by congress attendees have been extremely educational and culturally expanding. The progress and success of the ISC indicates that its conception back in 1968 was a well-conceived and rational decision. We look forward to the continued success and sustainability of the ISC.
